Ayutthaya - ancient city of ruins

Ayutthaya was the ancient capital of Siam from 1350 to 1767. The city is located about 85km north of Bangok, at the confluence of 3 rivers; Chao Phaya, Pa Sak & Lopburi rivers. After a long period of conflicts, it was sacked by the Burmese in 1767 that brought it to ruins. The Ayutthaya Historical Park is listed as a World Heritage site.

Wat Mahatat (not my photo); image like this reminds a sense of awe being so savagely attacked.

City Map guide for tourists. Seem many visitors paddled to places of interest on hired bicycles.

Ruins no doubt, it instill a sense of significance of its place in Thai history.

A new temple amongst the old and ruins.

Larger than life Buddha statutes within... reaching the ceiling!

Colorful temple floor with intricate design.

Elephant rides for tourists in town.

The number of students in uniform suggest a day out to visit this historic city. Part of history lesson?

A group of boy scouts and girl guides on hiking trip through the streets.

The laggards - last two, probably 1km behind the main group! Stopped for a pose.

Their comradeships really touched me. One holding stick probably suffered heat stroke, his mate provided shoulder support for him as he continued to limp forward after the photo shot!
